Inflation in the USA slowed less than expected in January, to 3.1% year-on-year.
Inflation in the United States slowed less in January than expected by investors, with basic prices, the most monitored by the Federal Reserve (Fed), having increased more than expected.
The consumer price index increased 3.1% year-over-year in January, the US Department of Labor announced on Tuesday, after increasing 3.4% in December. Economists surveyed by the Wall Street Journal expected overall inflation of 2.9% in January.
This could delay the date of the first rate cut by the Federal Reserve (Fed), the New York Stock Exchange opened sharply lower, while bond yields rose.
